Progress Software’s John Wilmes to Present on “SOA within the Vertical Industries” at OASIS Open Standards 2008Santa Clara, CA - April 30, 2008 - Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a provider of leading application infrastructure software to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, has announced that John Wilmes, Chief Technical Architect, Communications Sector for Progress DataXtend products and a TM Forum Representative, will be co-presenting a closing panel at OASIS Open Standards 2008. Wilmes' presentation is entitled, "SOA within the Vertical Industries," and takes place on Wednesday, April 30, at 4:00 p.m.

Other panel participants include Claus von Riegen, Director of Technology Standards, SAP AG, as moderator and panelists David Staggs, Chief Health Informatics Office, Emerging Health Technologies, Veterans Health Administration; and John Turato, Chairman, OpenTravel Board of Directors and Vice President of Technology, Avis Budget Group. The panelists will discuss the role of SOA in each of their specific industries. In particular, the discussion will explore:

  • What are the most important SOA paradigms?
    • What are the benefits?
    • Can it help bridge the business-to-IT gap? Does this require a new project organization approach and new skill sets?


    • Should services be designed for reuse or specific to their consumers?
  • Can interoperability be achieved by industry? What about cross-industry requirements?
  • What are the most important OASIS standards for use in specific industries? Which standards are missing?

John Wilmes is Chief Technical Architect, Progress Software and a TM Forum representative. Before joining Progress, he served as the CTO of Ceon Corporation, guiding the architecture of Ceon's next-generation product lifecycle management, order management, and service activation products. Previously, John led the design and development of flow-through provisioning solutions for tier-1 service providers at Evolving Systems and was instrumental in the design and development of automated fault management and manufacturing systems at Digital Equipment Corporation. John is co-chair of the TM Forum's SID Technical Program, co-lead of the NGOSS Service Assurance API team, and an active member of several other TM Forum technical programs.. John is a member of the IEEE and holds a BS in Computer Science from Regis University, Colorado.

OASIS Open Standards 2008: SOA and Composability Symposium will take place in Santa Clara, CA on April 28 - May 1, and will explore the advantages of applying Service-Oriented Architecture techniques for assembling and tuning applications developed on different platforms and managed by different owners.
