Skyward Selects the Progress OpenEdge BPM Platform to Build New Workflow Manager Offering for K-12 School Districts

Jan 17, 2011

BEDFORD, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 01/17/11 -- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading software provider that enables enterprises to be operationally responsive, announced today that Skyward, Inc, creator of the industry leading K-12 school management system and a Progress Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Partner, has selected the Progress® OpenEdge® BPM platform to develop its Workflow Manager product.

The Skyward Workflow Manager will provide end-users with tools and a number of easy-to-use templates that they can customize to support their own workflows processes. Additionally, the user interface will look similar to existing Skyward applications. The product will be available in August 2011.

Scott Glinski, President of Skyward, said: "With the Progress OpenEdge BPM platform, our customers will have greater visibility into their workflow, which will enable them to make more effective decisions. The Skyward Workflow Manager is the first product to offer this level of analysis, with simple functionality applicable throughout an organization's systems. Because of our longstanding partnership with Progress Software, we knew that the new OpenEdge BPM platform would be the best choice for us."

The OpenEdge BPM platform combines the power of a market-leading business process management platform with a proven business application development platform. This new offering will enable Progress' Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) Partners to develop and deliver business process enabled applications.

Skyward recognized early on that individual K-12 school districts needed to manage their unique workflows and administration processes. The Skyward Workflow Manager can improve overall efficiency by replacing paper intensive processes, identifying decision-making bottlenecks, and simplifying the management of school districts' operations. From handling the steps of hiring new employees, to processing special education forms through the review process, Workflow Manager coordinates the tasks, records approvals and changes, and improves turnaround that positively effects district operations.

Colleen Smith, Vice President of Product Marketing for Progress Software, said: "ISVs are focused on providing more flexibility in the use and deployment of business process enabled applications. They need to offer capabilities that include the ability to adjust and modify those processes based on rapidly changing business and administration needs. We are confident that Skyward will provide its customers with a superior level of capabilities and improved efficiencies."
