Enhanced DataDirect® Drivers Offer Greater Resource Efficiency

BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading software provider that enables enterprises to be operationally responsive, made available the latest version of its JDBC drivers, Progress® DataDirect Connect®for JDBC 5.0. The standards-based, fully interoperable drivers enable organizations to enhance modern data-driven Java applications by expanding their feature set, performance, and scalability without making application code changes.

Raymond Russo, Optum Development Manager at Impact Intelligence, verified driver performance: "After considerable testing, we found that the Progress DataDirect Connect for JDBC driver was able to insert a very large number of records into our database as quickly as possible using the advanced Bulk Load feature. This feature increased our time to transfer by 20 — 25 percent."

New features available in DataDirect Connect for JDBC 5.0 drivers include:

  • New Database Support - Full support for Database.com and Force.com applications.
  • Expanded Bulk Load Support - Increased performance and flexibility of Progress DataDirect® Bulk Load feature, including enhanced streaming in JDBC. Faster bulk operation performance can be applied across an even wider range of scenarios than ever before.
  • NTLM Support from UNIX and Linux to SQL Server - Support for connecting to a SQL Server database instance using NTLM authentication when connecting with the DataDirect Connect for JDBC SQL Server driver from a UNIX or Linux platform.
  • Increased Breadth of Support - Progress continues to be a leader in both the breadth and depth coverage of databases, database features and application platforms. The DataDirect Connect for JDBC 5.0 drivers expand this coverage even further, delivering enterprise quality JDBC access to even more application configurations including JDBC Array, Struct and Object data types as well as Sybase data types BIGDATETIME and BIGTIME.

"With the 5.0 release, users can move more data more efficiently because the drivers have built-in, wire-level high-performing bulk load capabilities which allow them to load data directly — and therefore more quickly - into the database," said Jesse Davis, director of DataDirect research and development at Progress Software. "In a virtualized environment, performance and efficiency allow applications to do more with less hardware, saving companies time and money," said Davis.
