Huawei Chooses Progress Software's Orbix for Flagship iManager T2000 Telecoms Management System

Oct 05, 2010

BEDFORD, MA and HONG KONG, Oct 05, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading software provider that enables enterprises to be operationally responsive, today announced that the CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) standards-based Progress(R) Orbix(R) software product has been selected by Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd (Huawei) to handle large-scale integration for its market leading iManager T2000 telecommunications management system. The Orbix product routinely handles integration and scalability challenges in the most complex and largest systems worldwide.

Huawei chose the Progress Orbix product for their iManager T2000 telecommunication management system because of its standards-based protocol, multi-platform integration capabilities as well as its field-proven legacy. For Huawei, it was an easy, low-risk decision. Orbix is an enterprise-tested, CORBA development and runtime product that bridges the gap between different operating systems and diverse languages ideally suited for the heterogeneous telecommunications environments their products operate in. Huawei has embedded the Orbix software into their iManager T2000 telecommunications management system to provide single-layer solutions for small- and medium sized transmission networks with end-to-end service maintenance.

The T2000 telecommunication management system is used to manage Huawei's OptiX series optical transmission equipment, including SDH/SONET, WDM, MSTP, and ASON and provides all network elements and network-level management functionality. It provides a single-layer solution but can also form multi-layer management networks with higher-level network management systems (NMS) through a standard external interface, to assist the higher-level NMS and the service-layer management system in managing large transmission networks.

Paul Henaghan, vice president and managing director, Progress Software Asia Pacific and Japan, said: "The Orbix product is the world's leading CORBA implementation with over 15 years of successful deployment in many large companies around the world and most of the world's phone calls are touched by Progress CORBA-based Orbix enterprise products. Now integrated with Progress Actional(R) products, Orbix products give customers the ability to monitor end-to-end message flow, while still retaining a commitment to maintain binary compatibility. With Progress Orbix products, Huawei is able to help their customers to meet their business needs and save customers' investments effectively."

CORBA is an open, vendor-independent architecture and infrastructure that computer applications use to work together over networks. Using the standard protocol IIOP, a CORBA-based program from any vendor -- on almost any computer, operating system, programming language, and network -- can interoperate.
