Independent Research Firm Positions Progress Software a Business Process Management Suite (BPMS) Leader

Oct 27, 2010

BEDFORD, MA, Oct 27, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading software provider that enables enterprises to be operationally responsive, today announced that the independent research firm, Gartner Inc., has positioned Progress Software as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Process Management Suites based on evaluation of the Progress(R) Savvion(R) BPM platform. The Gartner report, authored and published by Jim Sinur and Janelle Hill on October 18, 2010, noted that, "more organizations are adopting BPM as a discipline and scaling up their efforts to establish BPM as an enterprise program -- not just to apply its methods and technologies to one-off projects." The Progress Savvion BPM suite enables enterprises to optimize their business workflow and adapt to changing market conditions to become more operationally responsive.

Dr. M.A. Ketabchi, chief strategist (office of the CTO), Progress Software, said: "As organizations continue to integrate real-time data into their business process strategies, the importance of continuous process improvement has never been more essential. Indeed, Gartner's report found that more than 53% of respondents in their primary research rated continuous process improvement as the most important benefit of BPM. It's no longer enough to analyze business processes at the end of the day or even every hour. Enterprises need the tools to sense and respond to events as they occur and constantly improve their business processes in real time to meet changing market dynamics."

The Progress Savvion BPM platform enables organizations to optimize their business processes throughout the entire lifecycle of a business process -- from idea generation and modeling all the way to deployment -- to achieve operational responsiveness, greater ROI, and an enhanced customer experience.

Ketabchi also noted: "We believe, by our position in the Gartner Magic Quadrant, that the innovative capabilities of the Progress Savvion BPM platform stand out in their ability to deliver continuous process improvement for our customers. Moreover, our BPM capabilities sit at the heart of the unique Progress Responsive Process Management(TM) (RPM) suite, which is a next generation business solution that enables enterprises to achieve a higher level of business performance than previously possible."

In their research, Sinur and Hill found that "even during the 2009 economic crisis, BPM initiatives (and BPMS products) continued to receive funding. [And that] Gartner estimates that the size of the BPMS market will reach $3.3 billion by 2014, up from $1.6 billion in 2008 -- an increase of 106 percent."
