Progress® Responsive Business Integration solution enables increased automation and enhanced service for new customers

BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a leading software provider that enables enterprises to be operationally responsive, announced today that PD Ports, a leading UK ports business offering end-to-end logistic services for maritime shipping, has selected the powerful and comprehensive Progress® Responsive Business Integration (RBI) solution. The Progress RBI solution, underpins the Progress Supply Chain portfolio, to allow PD Ports to automate data exchange between disparate applications and improve the efficiency of port operations and service; this results in increased throughput and velocity of cargo. Progress' focus on supply chain enablement is an important building block in PD Port's strategy to be a fully integrated logistics supplier.

The Progress RBI solution combines the power of the Progress Sonic® Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), the Progress DataXtend® semantic integrator, and the Progress Actional® business transaction assurance platform to deliver three principal benefits across the SOA lifecycle — enhanced agility, information transparency and integration integrity. The Progress RBI solution provides accelerated and simplified QA, deployment, and configuration with the ability to make administrative changes across geographically distributed, organizationally federated and technically heterogeneous environments.

Marco van den Bremer-Hornsby, IT Director at PD Ports, explained: "We anticipate immediate time and cost saving benefits from the initial integration phase of this project. In the future, we're also looking forward to managing more business events, as shipping volumes and services increase."

The Progress RBI solution is pivotal for the initial stage of a long-term project aimed at delivering unprecedented levels of real-time visibility into critical information for PD Ports and its customers. The company is working towards providing customers with access to vital information about the flow of goods. This includes connecting data from the warehouse management and new container terminal operational systems to improve visibility and the ability to dynamically respond to changing situations.

After an intensive six-month selection process, PD Ports selected the Progress Sonic ESB product to integrate its applications in order to further automate the collection and distribution of data between systems. The company will also deploy the Progress Actional platform to enhance system visibility and SOA governance. This will enable PD Ports to monitor information feeds from the Sonic ESB product in real-time and detect time-based event patterns that impact the flow of goods as well as their ability to meet service level agreements.

It enables PD Ports to rapidly onboard new customers thereby enhancing their ability to absorb increased short-term contracts. Additional enhancements include minimizing the cost of paper-based administration and the reduction of errors associated with legacy forms of data management.

Van den Bremer-Hornsby continued: "By using the Progress Responsive Business Integration solution, PD Ports will become a more agile business by being able to adapt and change as the needs of our suppliers and customers change. With the Progress Sonic ESB product, we will be able to handle the huge increase in messages created by our tracking systems and the Progress Actional platform provides us with greater visibility. We found the Sonic ESB product will integrate seamlessly into our many disparate IT systems. A little further down the line, the Progress RBI solution will allow us to monitor and analyze event patterns and deliver real-time information to our customers."

David Mazzoni, Industry Vice President, Supply Chain, Progress Software, commented: "Using the Progress RBI solution to handle such a large amount of data and provide real-time, tangible benefits to the shipping community is an innovative and exciting use of our technology. This is a great example of the transportation and logistics sector using our best-in-class technology to significantly impact the effectiveness of its operations enabling the business to become more responsive."
