Progress(R) OpenEdge(R) Again Ranked the Leading 'Pure-Play' Embedded Database Management System by Leading Industry Analyst FirmBEDFORD, Mass., Jan 26, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a provider of leading application infrastructure software to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications today announced that IDC has ranked the award-winning Progress^® OpenEdge^®business application development platform as the number one pure-play embedded database management system (DBMS) in the world in 2008 for the fifth consecutive year, and was ranked this way for each of the six reports that IDC has issued for this market over the years. IDC presented findings in a report released on January 5, 2010: 'Worldwide Embedded DBMS 2010-2013 Forecast and 2008 Vendor Shares' (document 221438).

In its report, IDC highlights that the embedded DBMS market in particular fared slightly better than the overall DBMS market in 2009, attributing this to the fact that embedded DBMS sales are linked directly to products delivering immediate business value. The report also noted that the established sales channels of embedded DBMS vendors tend to be somewhat more stable than those sold directly to end user organizations.
