DataDirect Technologies Hosts XML and XQuery Workshops at Dali Universe in LondonSLOUGH, England, May 19, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- DataDirect Technologies (www.datadirect.com), the unparalleled leader in data connectivity and mainframe integration and an operating company of Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), will host the educational seminar, "Building Data Services Providing Access to Heterogeneous Data Sources," at Dali Universe in London, May 20.

The free seminar is designed to provide software architects and software developers with thought-provoking information and actionable best practices for optimising data access and data integration within Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). The workshop will take a hands-on approach to exploring the role of data management within SOA.

Guidelines for service-oriented data access and management techniques (data services) are sparse and those that are available have typically been formulated by SOA experts - not data management experts. As a result, different understandings of the same problems turn into a constant source of confusion and headaches. Introducing an approach to data services based on XML and XQuery, the workshop will examine a typical scenario where a hypothetical IT organisation needs to create a set of data services exposing various functionality. Topics to be addressed during the working session include:

  • Transforming XML documents into user-defined formats
  • Aggregating XML documents with relational data
  • Consuming Web services in XQuery
  • Exposing XQuery as data services

  • Integrating with non-XML B2B standards, like EDI
  • Adhering to XML industry standards, such as ACORD for insurance

Dr. Carlo Innocenti, senior XML program manager at DataDirect Technologies will write, test and deploy a real XML and XQuery-based solution live in front of the audience.
