Progress Software Releases New Version Of DataXtend Semantic Integrator

Jul 28, 2009
Progress Software Releases New Version Of DataXtend Semantic IntegratorBEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 28, 2009-- Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS), a global supplier of application infrastructure software used to develop, deploy, integrate and manage business applications, today announced the availability of Progress® DataXtend® Semantic Integrator (SI) 8.4. This release provides new multi-stream collaboration capabilities and support for new data and messaging formats and industry standards.

The DataXtend SI product enables the meaningful exchange of information between applications and services within a messaging and service-oriented architecture (SOA). Using the unique exchange modeling technology of the DataXtend SI product, enterprises can create a data interoperability layer that provides mediation among the different logical and physical models of their applications and services. Unlike other approaches, the exchange model provides the means to manage mediations in dynamic environments, enabling enterprises to quickly adapt to and implement change, and minimize the risk of introducing problems into the production arena.

Building on the success of Progress Softaware’s work with the TM Forum Information Framework (commonly referred to as the SID) for communications service providers, DataXtend SI Version 8.4 supports the insurance industry standard ACORD XML models. Other technical standards, including “flat files” with formats like csv (comma separated values), tab delimited and Microsoft Excel, and non-XML formats, like COBOL Copybooks, which provides a pathway for mainframe modernization, are also supported.

The multi-stream collaboration makes use of an advanced three-way comparison technique that enables higher levels of productivity for project teams working on multiple concurrent versions of a project. For instance, a situation when the current version of a project is deployed, the next version is in test, and the version after that is in development.

Version 8.4 of the DataXtend SI product expands support for creating and maintaining abstract service interfaces based on a common information model. This allows architects to further leverage their logical data modeling investment in their SOA environment by generating service interface definitions that are well aligned to the logical model used for mediation.

“Our customers have told us that they need to reduce the risk of deploying incomplete or broken data exchanges into their business-critical production environments. A data interoperability layer in their enterprise architecture is the way to do that,” said John Goodson, VP and General Manager, Data Infrastructure, Progress Software. “With DataXtend SI 8.4 our customers have the ability to reduce the time to implement a data interoperability layer, and at the same time, receive the benefits of our unique change management features, which address 80% of the cost equation that other vendors cannot handle. The enhancements we’ve made to the DataXtend SI product will continue to provide more gains in productivity for our customers.”
